Back to blogging, not sure where my mind has been the last month, but I do have some cool cards to share with you this month. This stamp that that I used for the first card is by Kerry Swinamer. Click on her name to be taken to her section of the store.

Kerry's style is a little edgy but also soft at the same time. I know that doesn't seem to go together, but the image I used for this card is called BioHazard. She is intense but almost has a softness.

Today, I woke up to an overcast sky, a cool breeze, and a hint of fall in the air. Wow! It was so nice to have a brief look at what I am desperately waiting for -- fall! But, along with fall comes a little bit brisker pace as we get ready for Halloween, birthdays, and such. Of course, one of the best things about Halloween is candy corn (sshh, I have already had one bag!)

But, we also love carving pumpkins and as such, I love the new stamp that was released at Queen Kat Designs - Pumpkin Stack.

I made a couple of cards this past weekend since we were hunkered down because of all of the rain from Tropical Storm/Depression Lee. Since it was raining, I thought it was appropriate to use a mermaid stamp! This card features the Chibi Mermaid Stamp by Meadow Pixie Arts!

Designer Apprentice Competition

I have never been one to do anything "half-way." So, while I have been tossing the idea of going into digital design for a while now, I never committed to it. But, that has definitely changed!

I decided to enter the Designer Apprentice challenge at DSA; yes, I know that I am not a designer, I am a wanna-be. I joined in with the new group (designing less than a year) and have already completed two challenges.

The first challenge was to create a mini kit that contained at least two extracted elements: this is what I came up with.

And then for the second challenge, we had to create our own "textures" and create a paper pack using at least two of those textures. I had so much fun with this challenge. Here's what I came up with.

Scheduling Time

I often have the comment ready on hand to say "I don't have time for . . ." You know the

I don't have time to exercise; I work then come home . . . (yeah, you know the rest of the excuses).

I don't have time to . .. . because I am tired, . . . (are you putting all those answers/excuses in the blanks).

But, this week it hit me that I do have time; I just need to prioritize what I do with my time, how I spend my time. So, instead of thinking about exercises and wishing I had time, my day now starts at 5:30 am (gasp)walking.

It is a great way to start the day and boy does it help me feel better as well. But this is only the physical aspects that I am working with; I need to start scheduling more time for the spiritual aspects. Prioritizing my life is the goal; I need to have my focus on Him.

Not Leaving on Jet Plane

Sometimes I feel like everything is spiraling out of control and I can't find a way to get it together. Yet, today my feeling of being overwhelmed was calmed.

Just wondering what could calm my storm, my life -- a blog post. Reading a blog post by Katie Walker. As I read her blog, I realized that while her post was for her, it was also something that God was directing toward me.

In her post, she said:
so for today:
- "bad" days may be God's way of saying, "hey, I'M in control here."
- find joy in trials.
- with grace, life IS good.

Day 4 of my children being gone to camp! This is their first experience (mine also!) and I was a little apprehensive about how they would feel about being away from home for five days and four nights ---mmm, well, the quick words from my female child -- I'm having fun; this is great. Oops, got to go, bye. (this is basically what she told me on both day 1 and 2). And it isn't until day 3 when the male child talks to me, only because he broke his glasses and needed his other pair! No, Mom, I love you and miss you.

I am so happy and sad at the same time; my babies are growing up and who knew that I would be the one who is "home-sick" because it isn't really the same without all the noise and hugs and laughter from my two!

June Heat Wave

There is no reason or rhyme to the weather lately across the US. Tornadoes have hit so many different regions; flooding and droughts are happening side by side. And now, here it is the first week of June and the heat is almost unbearable.

So, to beat the heat, we are staying in as much as possible. Staying in means I have time to scrap some; this week, I worked on some cards for QKD (two I can't share yet because the stamps haven't been released yet) but here are a couple that I made using a cool new stamp called Giver of Light.

Of course, if you look at my cards, when I first used the stamp, I wasn't thinking sun behind the girl, for the first one, I was thinking Earth Day.

And not sure exactly where I was headed with this one, but I love how she turned out.

Cards and Easter Egg Dyes

After my kids finished dyeing Easter eggs, I looked at the all the cups and thought --- what could I do with them. So, I thought about using them as misters, but I didn't have any spray bottles (note to self - get spray bottles). Then I thought about using them like a wash.

So, I grabbed a napkin, and then used the napkin to put the dye on cardstock. It came off as a watercolor type of technique and I really liked how it turned out. Here's some cards that I made using this technique.

I used the Knowledgeable Pixie stamp for the top card and the QKD Get Inked kit for the bottom card. If you are not on the list for the kit, then get on it!!! This is a fabulous kit!!

I used a fun new technique of inking my paper and then crumbled the paper before adding it to the card base. I wanted to create a look that mimicked the appearance of books stacked. Thanks for looking; now make sure you check out Wynneth's and Loretta's blogs to see their fabulous creations!

Before I get to sharing a little something with you, I wanted to share something fabulous with you!!

Kats Magical Patches!!!

For all you sewing girls out there, some of the fabulous creations by QKD have now been made into Fabric Patches or into Iron-on Patches!!!

Are these just fabulous!!! The top two designs are iron-ons and the bottom one is a fabric patch!! And there are so many more great designs to be had.

Well, after those, I will just save my card for another day because I cannot compete with these!!

Triple Tiara Tuesday at QKD

Here it is another Tuesday, so another TTT for Queen Kat Designs. So, every week, three of the DT members for QKD have a new challenge. If you play along, then you can link up to your image on the QKD blog (just click on the link above to take you to the blog.)

Okay, our challenge this week was to use a brayer. Well, I don't own a brayer and don't live near a store that sells one, so I had to improvise for this challenge.

I ended up using a foam paint roller, the small size that is meant for trim work. Not sure if I ended up with the same type of technique but I loved how my card turned out.

I used both green and blue ink on my background and love the softness of it. I stamped directly onto the background paper for both the image and the sentiment stamp (both of which are found in the February Royal Kit by Queen Kat Designs).

This week, Queen Kat Designs is featuring the work of Sue Miller!!! OH OH OH MY MY MY!!! I am absolutely in love with these stamps and I am sure that you are as well!!!

My stamp is called Angel Knock. And here are the cards that I made using the stamp. I tried to show that the stamp could be used for a soft card like the top one and a little bit stronger color palette in the second. Of course, I used papers from the same Heidi Grace line for both cards!

Okay, now my card! I used the Cute Rockstar Rubber Stamp Set. This stamp was so much fun to work with; I can definitely see it being used for birthday cards, congratulations cards, and "you rock" cards. While my daughter seems to think that I should just use it for her and her friends, I think I will also use it for my friends as well!!

Some days you just need a hug, or at least I know that I do. And when you need to 'send' someone a hug, the new Valerie Wade Whale Hug stamp is just perfect!!!

I pulled some Got Flowers from Prima out of my stash to add as embellishments, but used some tissue paper that I crumbled up for the background.

Ooohhh, a rock star. . .

Well, not exactly sure if those are the lyrics to the song sung by Hannah Montana, but those are the ones I think are correct. LOL

But, I do know that at my house, rock star stuff, girly girly frilly stuff, and lots of pink abound, so when I got to play with the Rockstar Girl stamp set this month, I had to make sure that my daughter didn't keep it!

She loved this stamp and when I asked her what color I should use for one card -- the answer was quick and simple PINK!! So, I went a little punky and a lot of pink for this card!!

We are a stamp manufacturer that makes laser etched rubber stamps. We are looking for people who LOVE to stamp and can do so on a deadline with a smile!

*Must love to color!*
*Must be able to do a minimum of 5 cards a month*
*Must be able to blog 1 time a week on your own blog*
*Must be able to blog 1 time a week on one of our company blogs*

Work Description:
*5-6 Hand stamped cards a month (photographs only, you keep your cards)
*1 Blog post a week on your personal blog (using 1 of the cards you made for your monthly quota)
*1 Blog post on one of the 3 Queen Kat Designs Blogs (Whimsical Ink Sorority, Dark Ink Sorority or the QKD Company blog, you will be assigned to 1 of the blogs upon hire)

T3 Challenge - Jan. 18

It's Tuesday, so that means it is time for the Triple Tiara Tuesday. This is the third week of the challenge and if you saw my earlier post about it, you know that if you play along you can win!!!

This week we had an inspiration challenge! This cool photo from Red Envelope was our challenge.

And here's my card:

I pulled out my alcohol inks and used them to dye a clear button from 7 Gypsies, plus I also smeared the alcohol ink on a transparency sheet. I back the sheet with white to make the colors pop on the black embossed background. Maigan's stamp was the perfect one to go with the fabulous colors!

Kristie Silva is such a fun designer at QKD, so we are "relaunching" her line!! And this blog hop focuses on some of her new stamp designs!!!

You should have started at the QKD blog and then hopped along to Loretta's blog, and now you are here at mine.

I played with Blue Fairy and had a great time using this stamp. Here are two cards that I did using this stamp.

Instead of coloring the image, I used glitter and stickles to fill in the main areas of the stamp! I love the way it turned out.

Wow! Time flies! It is hard to believe that today is the last QKD blog hop of 2010! This has been a year of ups and downs! But, now to the fun of the day -- the blog hop!!

This week's was a "free for all" -- no set challenge, no set anything because everyone is so busy with the holidays. So, you should have started with the fabulous Nina at the QKD blog, hopped along, made it to the Whimsical Ink Sorority blog, and now you are here!

And here's my project for this week:

I used the Penguin Friends Stamp Set mainly because my kids love penguins!! I pulled out some old chipboard and used it as the base of my stamp, after I cut him (or her) out. I also pulled out a larger size scrap that I had in my multicolor scrap envelope. I just cut the patterned paper at the same intervals and spaced it out -- quick and easy card that looks like you took a little more time with it!

Eleven more days until Christmas!!! Wowza! In celebration of the holiday spirit, the challenge was to use green, white, and black this week.

Well, I started looking at my scrap stash and found some black magic mesh (do you remember magic mesh!) and decided that it might be fun to use it on the card. I pulled out some old Cosmo Cricket patterned paper as well.

Isn't he just adorable!! I used one of the penguins from the Penguin Friends Rubber Stamp Set. I don't know who was more excited about this set, me or my kids!!! My kids love penguins and they loved the images in this set. I used some sparkle/glitter cardstock from the December Royal kit! Love this kit!!! Make sure you get one when they hit the store!

QKD Nov. 16 Royal Blog Hop

Oh my!!! did you look at that date! It is the middle of November and that means almost Thanksgiving, then Christmas, I am not ready!!!!

The challenge this week was to use red and orange with neutrals. Here is the inspiration photo.

I love this color combo, but when I tried to pull it together on my card, it didn't come out like the inspiration picture. But, here is my card.

I used the May 2010 QKD Royal Kit. If you are not familiar with the Royal Kits, patterned paper and coordinating stamps rock!!! This kit featured Cosmo Cricket. I added the flowers and brad, and "stole" some manila construction paper from my kids and stamped on it! I definitely need to buy my own pack!!!

Sept. 28 - Special Project Blog Hop!

The challenge this week was to based our project around "Back to School." Being a teacher and having two children in school, I had a couple of ideas, but I ended up a little "off" from my original idea.

Here's the card/holder that I came up with for this week's hop.

So, the "back to school" major element is that I used two brown paper lunch bags to make the card. I cut off the ends of the bags (the folded stand up part) and then sewed the two bags together. For stamps, I thought that Alice was a perfect person to represent "learning," so I used the Little Miss Alice Stamp and the Explore word stamp from the April 2009 Royal Kit; this kit is still available in 6x6 or 12x12.

Scary days are ahead -- well, not really, but I love Halloween and was so excited for the September releases and this challenge! It is a color challenge that is Halloween inspired - Any combination of orange, green, purple, black and white. Did you not love the designs from last week. I had such a great time hopping along and seeing all the wonderful creations by my team members!

Okay, week 2 = sketch challenge. And here's the sketch

This week is the second week of releases, but I did actually use the same stamp as last week - Fashion Dress #4. I cannot get enough of the Fashion Dress stamp series!!!

These stamps are so classy that no other work is needed to them - just stamp and use. I added some rubons and ribbon to my card and that is it -- yes, the "stitches" are rubons!!!

At CUC this month, the digital team got to use Designs by Krista and Bugaboo Digital Stamps.

Here are the layouts that I did using Krista's Friends kit.

And I also used Stella - Hard Drive from Bugaboo Stamps with this layout. The kit used is from Danielle Corbitt.

Oh my! It is August!!! I am excited because it is now time for the QKD new release blog hop (and I loved my stamps for this month) but also in shock because summer is over!!!

But, it is Tuesday and that means it is time for the QKD blog hop and yes, this week features new releases and a sketch. Here is the sketch

I did start with the sketch but my card took a life of its own and turned out different from the sketch! I got to play with one of the fabulous Fashion Dress Stamps!! I love these -- so elegant and classy. I used some glitter to dress up the bottom of the dress but it is fabulous with or without any embellishing!!!

QKD Blog Hop

It is the end of the month here at QKD which means that next week there will be new stamps!!! woohoo!!! But, back to this week. This week our blog hop at QKD was an inspiration challenge -- we were to be inspired by cupcakes! YUMMY!!!

Now, you are here! Okay, here is my card for this week

I used the June Royal Kit for my card along with the cool shape templates made by QKD! I love the Royal Kits -- great way to make cards without "thinking" because it has all you need -- cardstock, patterned paper, embellishments and QKD stamps!!! Both the tea cup, cupcake, and saying stamp are in this kit along with even more stamps!! What a great deal!!!

QKD Blog Hop 7/20

July keeps flying by! Here it is Tuesday again and time for the QKD blog hop! You should have started at the QKD blog - then hopped along making it to the WIS blog, and now you are here. And this week is a color challenge - red, white, and blue!

I used the fabulous June WIS kit for my card!

I used a navy blue base and then pulled out some KI diecut number paper, which seemed perfect for a happy birthday card! I did some selective coloring, added in a little yellow for pop, and then finished it off with a sentiment from the kit as well.

QKD Tuesday Hop - Sketch Challenge

Here it is again, the Tuesday blog hop featuring Queen Kat Designs!!! You should have started at the QKD blog - then hopped along making it to the WIS blog, and now you are here. And here is the sketch for this week.

I loved this sketch and thought it was perfect for a patriotic card, but when I sat down to make my card, I needed a Father's Day cad, so here is what I came up with.

Yes, that is a Happy Stixx that I used for my sentiment! I can't get enough of these. I used some old Basic Grey, a little ric rac, and my Happy Stixx and was ready to go! Thanks for stopping by, but now it is time to head to Jules' blog to see what she has for us.

Tuesday Blog Hop - QKD

Wow! It is July and that means new releases at QKD, but this month is a little different we had some fun products to play with! I will show you those in a just a minute, but now the 'business' of the hop -- since this is a new lineup, let's make sure we have it right -- you should have started at the beginning at the QKD blog and hopped along and then made it to the WIS blog and now you are here at my blog!

Okay, this week was a sketch challenge, and here is the sketch --

The cupcake is from the June WIS kit, and do you see that Happy Birthday? Well, it is a Happy Stixx! These are just fabulous! The sayings are etched on them; you can distress them, paint them, ink them, or just use them plain like I did! Oh my!!! I adore these and am so looking forward to adding more to my stash!!!

Another fun product that we got to work with were templates -- I love these templates -- set of two shapes with three sizes per shape. Great for those of us who don't have the room (or money) for a die cut machine! Here's a card that I did using a set of templates -- of course, it doesn't match the sketch but it does show off the fabulous June WIS kit! There is only one left, don't miss out on this fabulous kit!!!

QKD Monday Blog Hop

Yes, it is Monday and time again for the QKD blog hop -- but be aware that starting next week, the Monday and Tuesday blog hops are being combined and we will just have one hop a week at QKD!

I pulled out a QKD Royal kit to use for my papers -- if you are not familiar with the kits -- I highly recommend them -- all coordinated and no thinking necessary -- and used the Red Queen stamp.

May 24 - QKD Blog Hop

Here is our inspiration for this week.

I had so many great ideas; I thought about making some panels to look like the architecture and then I thought about focusing on the saxophone player and doing a card about music. But, I finally did a birthday card and went with some pink to go along with the soft colors of the ad.

I used Che's Bunny Chan Stamp for this soft card. I know Che's stamps are usually not what you would think of when you think soft and pink, but Bunny Chan really works here!

May is almost half over and it amazes me that it is time for another Monday Blog Hop for Queen Kat Designs!

I am so in love with the new rubber stamps! You have got to check out what all is in the store and if something is not there yet, make sure you shoot QK a message and she can get it for you!! Don't you just love that!!!

Okay, back to the hop. You should have started from the QKD blog, then hopped to Jules' blog, and now you are here. The challenge was to create a monochromatic card of any color. I went with my favorite color of green!! I also used the Sock Monkey set! this set is so cute!!!

I used the monkey with the birthday hat, but there is also a plain monkey and one with a birthday present! So versatile!!!

QKD Monday Hop

It is time for the Monday blog hop here at Queen Kat Designs. Did you get to play in the Rubber crop this past weekend? There were some fabulous creations made. Check out this cool project made by Nina.

Back to the hop though, you should have started the hop at the QKD blog and then hopped from Jules' blog to mine. We worked with the sketch found at the QKD blog, and for the sketch I pulled out one of the Mommy stamps by Beth. These are just fabulous! I love the little heart elements that she has added. I rotated the sketch for my card, but I still love how it turned out. The paper is some from a past QKD Royal kit! I love having these kits because I don't have to think about matching the papers and elements. It is all done for me!
